Dear Michael,
As the summer quickly approaches, you're probably
wondering if you have everything you need to
have fun. You might also be thinking ahead to holidays
and other special events, looking for deals and quality
(a rare pair these days!). That's where we come in!
Some of what you'll find in this month's issue of
Shopping Around includes a shopping tip you may not
have thought of, but should find helpful. Our featured
article of the month begins a series on the benefits of
cedar wood for use in outdoor furniture (it's not just for
closets!). This month's contest winner is revealed as
well. Finally, check out our sponsors, for high quality
products and affordable specials. We hope you enjoy!

When you're looking for an item on the web, how do
you usually start? With a search engine? That's how I
usually begin. Next time though, instead of simply
searching for your item, search for a vertical portal
instead.
There are two types of portals, horizontal and vertical.
Horizontal portals are directories like Yahoo!. They're
called "horizontal" because their list of websites
cover a broad range of topics. Vertical portals
on the other hand are narrow, covering only one topic
or one type of topic.
To find a vertical portal go into a search engine (like Google and type (for
example) "car portal". You'll see several car portals
come up. Any one of them contains a list of car sales
websites to choose from. Furthermore, the list is far
more efficient than just searching for "cars". This
works for "clothes portal", "food portal", even "baby
portal".
Finally, there's a company called
VerticalPortals.com that has a list of vertical
portals that they maintain. I suggest you try some out
and see what you can see. There are millions of
websites out there, and most of them don't show up in
the first page of search results. Vertical portals might
be the only way to find the retailer you're looking
to buy from.

Abound Enterprises is looking to expand! We're looking
for ideas for items to sell on the web. What items have
you been looking for that you either can't find, or can't
find for good prices, or can't find with high quality? Is
it software, furniture, jewelry, religious? What is it?
We want to sell what you're looking for!
If you could choose the next website we
launched, what would it be?
We'll be reviewing all the suggestions we get. If we
end up using your suggestion, you'll get a $50 gift
certificate for use on the website when it
launches! Sorry, but if more than one person makes
the same suggestion, the certificate goes to the first
one who suggests it!
I suggest...

| Why Use Cedar? |
 |
|
Make sure you're comfortable this summer! Metal
furniture can rust over the winter and scorch your skin
in the summer. Most wood on the other hand needs
refinishing every year if you don't want it to rot and get
ruined... unless we're talking about cedar.
Cedar wood is different because of its natural oils. In
hot weather, it doesn't dry out and it remains cool to
the touch... no more burnt body parts. In the rain and
general humidity, it resists rot and decay, which also
makes it ideal for keeping outside and using around the
pool or even the sauna.
If you're tired of uncomfortable furniture that you'll
have to replace next year anyway, consider buying
cedar. If you're interesting in learning more about the
other unique qualities of cedar wood, read our
report, "Why Cedar?" You'll find it quite enlightening!
